In November 2018, the Rotary Club of Gympie hosted it’s inaugural Ancient Crafts, Rare Trades Expo, in conjunction with it’s prestigious Quilt & Craft Spectacular. What a weekend we had! With over 35 exhibitors of ancient crafts and heritage trades, with inspiring demonstrations by skilled artisans and tradespeople, and with markets and lots of old-fashioned camaraderie, the event was a roaring success.
Plans for the next Ancient Crafts, Rare Trades Expo are well underway, with many exhibitors and demonstrators coming onboard! The event will be held in the stadium in Gympie Showgrounds, alongside the Quilt & Craft Spectacular,

Join us for a weekend – or a day – to enjoy this event! Over 40 skilled artisans of heritage crafts will be demonstrating continuously over the weekend – a collective expo featuring makers of the traditional trades and domestic craft of yesteryear, once the foundation on which our communities were built and integral to daily living.
Meet: Woodworkers and Carvers; Spoonsmiths; Luthers; Lapidarists; Silversmiths; Lacemakers; Beekeepers; a Ceramicist; a Harpmaker; a Gilder; Blacksmiths; a Shingle Splitter; Penmaker; Basketweavers; a Glassblower; a Tinsmith; Spinners; a Papermaker; Mosaic artist and even more – all gathered in one arena and keen to share their knowledge and their passion in their craft with you.
See: displays of vintage tools and antique machinery – there’s a surprise or two in the pipeline.
Indulge: Traditional dampers and tea, or….. there’s even craft beer to enjoy!

Now attracting visitors, exhibitors and artisans from throughout South East Queensland – from the Gold Coast through Brisbane to the Sunshine Coast and north to Maryborough, Childers and Hervey Bay – the event is considered one of the biggest in South East Queensland. Ancient Crafts, Rare Trades is held the Pavilion’s stadium, alongside the Quilt & Craft Spectacular, held in the Pavilion. The Pavilion is wheelchair friendly and has a lift. There are handicapped toilets. Buses welcome, entry can be fast-tracked by groups.

There will be plenty of food and coffee outlets throughout the venue.
All profits are donated to benefit worthy charities through the Rotary Club of Gympie – the main beneficiary of the Quilt & Craft Spectacular is Little Haven Palliative Care.
